It all started with a shot...okay maybe genetics but whatever.

I actually tried to start this 2 months ago. But life...so now I am going to play catch up.
Weight when starting June 2019: 260lbs

We all know by now that Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome has genetic links. There are a variety of symptoms and the ages of onset are varied. I can tell you when mine kicked in. I was 19 and in the Army.

I chose the Depo Provera shot as birth control. I mean who doesn't love the promises? No periods for a year and it is a shot every three months? I could totally get behind the not having to remember a pill everyday. Gain around ten pounds? I could live with that. I was in the military, and being only 19 I could eat whatever I wanted in any amount and not think twice...

After only ONE shot I gained nearly 40 pounds within a very short period of time. My skin hurt from the rapid weight gain. No matter what I did the weight just kept coming. I was tired all of the time. It took far too much effort to get out of bed and dress much less do anything else. Days would go by with very little food as it was far better to just sleep whenever I had a moment than eat.

Of course though everyone blames eating on weight gain. Doctors were even telling me that I needed to take PT more seriously. I needed to eat less and work out more. I had been injured and that was the excuse they were giving me. Because I had injuries that limited me, I just needed to push through and get the job done. But nothing worked. Starving my body didn't work...nothing was working.

It wasn't until after I was out of the Army following my soldier husband around the country that I found a doctor that listened. We were trying to have a baby and after only one shot I still did not have a period nearly two years later. That was the first time I had ever heard of PCOS. Mine was dormant all through puberty and it seemed to be triggered by the shot. I had on time clockwork fairly easy periods up until that point.

There haven't been any studies that I have found linking the two. So please don't think that the shot is bad or that it will cause PCOS. That is not the case. Simply, I had it....I did. My sisters also have it..and neither of them had the shot. I am simply saying I had zero symptoms until I had gotten the shot and then everything began to spiral.

Would the symptoms have eventually popped up? Most certainly. That's how the beast works. I just happen to know the moment that mine was forced out of hibernation and decided to screw up my body. Paybacks being a bitch and all that I suppose. I imagine the one sided conversation went like this....

"What.....what? Oh you wanna play? You want to shoot up that crap and wake me? Okay baby let's play this game...do you know I never lose?"

Spoiler Alert:  The beast won and I lost.

  1. I have had fibromyalgia for 30 years and it flared up so bad when I hit 50 the only thing that really makes a difference then was a keto diet. The difference is ASTOUNDING in fatigue, brain fog and inflammation. I feel almost human. I have trouble sticking to it though. Thankfully I found Dr Itua who resides from west africa in which I purchased a herbal product to finally get rid of this horrible disease, I drank Dr Itua herbal medicine for one months and I got healed once and for all I'm healthy.
